Greenwood Community High School
This program is part of the The Purdue High School Go-Karting Series
OUR STORY
Founded in January 2017, the Greenwood High School Go Kart program offers students a chance to participate in a unique classroom project unlike any other: build a go-kart

Students with all kinds of skill sets will be brought together into a team that will build, and eventually race, an electric go-kart. By the time the class is complete, students will have been exposed to mechanical and electrical engineering, project management, sales and marketing, team work, and outreach into the community. College bound or not, this is one program that will give students real-world experience.

The class is designed to allow students to find what they're good at, and capitalize on it for the benefit of the team. For example, the team requires people who enjoy mechanics to physically build the kart frame, as well as people who are electrically inclined to wire the motor. But the team also needs people to handle the community outreach aspect of the class, such as running the social media accounts. Bottom line, each student is important to the success of the team.

OUR WORK
The kart is an electric go-kart, as opposed to gas, and runs on batteries and a motor controller which are programmed
All the parts, like the axle, wheel, seat, and motor, need to be assembled together onto the frame
Once the kart is up and running, the driver suits up and test drives before the race
